tl;DR
In house social media motion graphic. My first project that I’ve art directed. Worked inside the Adobe Suite, primarily in After Effects & Photoshop.
Working for the Michigan State University College of Arts & Letters (MSUCAL) Marketing Department, allowed me the opportunity to work with a seasoned team, while still collaborating with a young talented group of interns.
We worked on a variety of projects. As the sole graphic design intern I was responsible for the design of many social posts. For this particular project I was tasked with creating a ‘Good Luck’ graphic to prepare students for the upcoming week of finals.
This project was particularly significant, as it was the first project I art directed.
I worked jointly with the senior graphic designer, the videographer/photographer and our social interns to develop this product. This project tested my abilities as both an art director and a designer.
I explored different text treatments for ‘Good Luck’; I was attempting to emulate the look of a felt marker. After exhausting my options, I was inspired by my co-worker's reusable coffee cup.
I quickly jotted down some ideas for the cup. I knew that I wanted to set a scene for the cup, a lived in environment that was similar to my own desk back at my dorm.
I quickly put together a proof of concept to see if the idea had legs; I then did an amateur shoot to pitch to the senior designer. Once I had the go-ahead, I set a professional shoot with our photographer.
This video is a view into my creative development process. It displays my decisions as a designer, my abilities across the Adobe Suite, and my organizational skills.
This project tested my skills as a designer but more importantly my ability to art direct. Each project at MSUCAL taught me more about managing my time while working on deadlines, how to work within a team, and most importantly how to work through the process of revisions. This project was no different, in fact it fully encapsulated my experience. Even though the end product is quick and sweet, I walked away with a wealth of learning points, that have helped me develop myself onward.
